Aaron Tsinigine kicks off The Score, The Team Roping Journal’s new podcast.

On long drives back and forth to my husband’s family’s ranch in Wyoming to help brand or pick up some really ranchy colts, he and I started downloading and streaming podcasts–you know, the ones about murder mysteries and crime and science and cults.

We got pretty into the whole podcasting deal on those dozens of six-hour drives, but we never could find one about rodeo or team roping or anything really very Western. (Full disclaimer: If you have one that I’ve missed, let me know! I admit my search wasn’t completely comprehensive…) So over the last few months, the staff at the TRJ and I have talked about how we’d do a podcast. Luckily, TK Trask joined our team in late 2017, and she’s super-podcast savvy, so she made the whole idea come to life in the form of The Score from The Team Roping JournalShe’s now added “podcast producer” to her role as marketing manager here at Active Interest Media.

I headed to the Cinch Timed Event Championship armed with my iPhone and an iRig mic, and sat down with Aaron Tsinigine, Trevor Brazile, and Billie Jack Saebens for some test runs. This whole podcasting gig is a little more nerve wracking than I imagined, but the first episode–of course, with Aaron–is now live for the world to hear on iTunes.

It was a different conversation than he and I had ever shared publicly, about the night he won the world, about not making the Finals the next two years after winning the gold buckle, and lots more.

You’ll notice Aaron’s dog hopped into the truck for a portion of our conversation, and she squeaks her toy through some of it. Apologies on that–I’ll learn for the next time, but at least this time perhaps it makes it just a bit more ‘real’.

We’ll release a new episode every two weeks, barring any complications, and you’ll be able to look forward to conversations with producers, WSTR and USTRC leadership, and ropers with a story to tell. I think we’re going to all figure out this podcasting thing together.

For those of you who get to spend a lot of time on the road heading to rodeos or ropings, this is for you. And for those who just spend a lot of time sitting in traffic, making that commute from your place outside of town to the office, maybe this will help make your stop-and-go just a little more enjoyable. Find it on SoundCloud here or on iTunes here, or search The Score from The Team Roping Journal on iTunes Podcasts
