Coleman Proctor and Logan Medlin, who won $15,131 each during the Cowboy Christmas run, continued their winning streak at the Rooftop Rodeo in Estes Park, Colo., earning $5,253 each and moving up to the No.6 position in the PRCA World Standings.

Proctor and Medlin made consistent runs at the Rooftop Rodeo, winning the first round with a 4.3 and placing fifth in the second round with a 4.5 to win the average with a total time of 8.8 seconds on two, earning $5,253 each.

“My plan was just to kinda get a good start, set Logan up, that’s usually where we win the best,” Proctor, 36, of Pryor, Okla., said. “When I pulled to get out at the barrier my yellow was like, ‘Alright, it’s game time man.’ He went ahead, went to moving out a little early for me, helped me finish my delivery, but I had to reach a long way, when it hit his horns, he kept legal, and Logan showered him down like he always does. And when I faced we were 4.3. When you win the first round, you always want to make a good run on the second one. The steer kind of came out a little bit left so it took away some of my options but my yellow horse was on the money. And when I turned him, Medlin heeled him so fast. Heeled him before I was ready to face. I was worried about how I was going to get set up and then all of a sudden he whacks him out. So he was really the reason we were 4.5. I was just trying to get a little something in the average, capture another big week for us, so we were really excited.”

HORSEPOWER

Lena Spark Dun It

On the head side, Proctor rode Admiral, registered Lena Spark Dun It, a 14-year-old palomino gelding who had recently recovered from an injury that forced him to be out last season, and has since proven to be the game-changer for Proctor since his return.

“He is on point at the right time in the season,” Proctor said. “Admiral just gives me amazing goes at the barrier and he brings the run together really fast.”

Nita Win Playboy

On the heel side, Medlin rode Drago, registered Nita Win Playboy, a 13-year-old ex-ranch gelding who’s carried Medlin to two NFRs and won the 2020 Heel Horse of the Year award, playing a major role in Medlin’s success this year as his No.1 mount.

“He’s my favorite one to go to and I know that he’s gonna do his job and he makes mine much easier,” Medlin, 31, of Tatum, N.M., said.

STAYING HOOKED

As a result of their win, Proctor and Medlin have moved up from No. 7 and No. 8 in the World Standings to No. 6 with season earnings of $65,826.61.

“We’re just taking advantage of the opportunities out here,” Proctor said. “This month of July, it’s amazing. All these committees have stepped up, seems like all the rodeos have added more. So there’s a lot of opportunities and that’s what we’ve been trying to do, win on every steer that walks in there and be professional. You know, like at Elko our steer was pretty good, a little bit stronger maybe at Vernal, and we won third on those and it’s just, that’s what those steers are worth. Trying to keep that mentality and just get whatever each steers worth. I think we’ll like the results when we look up.”
