The Northeast Rundown: First Frontier Circuit Summer Recap
Summer means peak rodeo time in the First Frontier Circuit. Here’s who has seen success.

While the ProRodeo Tour covers much of the Midwest and Northwest during the summer months, ropers in the First Frontier Circuit get to keep it close to home. 

Chase and Riley Quinn 

Chase has $12,111.89; Riley has $11,278.11 — first in the First Frontier heading and heeling standings 

The Quinn brothers of Schuylerville, New York, are taking full advantage of the rodeos in their territory. They kicked off their season on June 8 when they won first in Goshen, Connecticut, after going 3.9 seconds to earn $827 a man. From there, they ran one in 4.8 seconds on July 18 to earn the $602 first-place purse in Lake Luzerne, New York’s Painted Pony Rodeo, won the July 19 and July 26 Cowtown Rodeo events in Woodstown, New Jersey, with 6.3- and 6.0-second runs to earn $1,090 a man both times; took the win at the July 31 Gerry, New York, rodeo with a 5.4-second run to pocket $1,056 a man; returned to Cowtown Rodeo on Aug. 9 to win it with a 6.8-second run and take home $1,751 a man; and wrapped up Aug. 22 with a win in Lake Luzerne for their 4.9-second run worth $639 a man. 

Eric Fabian and Derek Carey 

Fabian has $9,609.37; Carey has $8,783.35 — second in the heading and heeling standings 

Multi-time circuit champions, Eric Fabian, of Gansevoort, New York, and Derek Carey, of Valley Falls, New York, started their winning at the Goshen Stampede with a 5.7-second run to earn $1,128 a man. Next, they won the June 14 Cowtown Rodeo in Woodstown Pilesgrove, earning $1,193 a man for their 5.8-second run. From there, they got the win on July 5 (6.4 seconds for $790 a man) and Aug. 15 (6.3 seconds for $677 a man). “The Pony,” proved to be a sweet spot for the local New York team, they were 6.4 seconds on Aug. 23 to finish second and take home $508 a man. 

Chuck Smith and Kevin Brown 

Smith has $8,650.43; Brown has $8,650.43 — third in the heading and heeling standings 

Chuck Smith of Townsend, Delaware, and Kevin Brown of Keedysville, Maryland, capitalized on trips to the weekly PRCA hotspot in Cowtown. They were second on June 14 with a 6.6-second run to pocket $987 a man; stopped the clock in 7.4 seconds on June 28 to finish second and take home $790 a man; were third on July 12 with an 8.4-second run worth $603 a man; won the Aug. 2 rodeo with a 7.9-second run for $1,607 a man; were third on Aug. 9 for $1,294 a man; and ended up third on Aug. 23 to take home $625 a man. 

Waylon Cameron and Ryan Whetham 

Cameron has $8,520; Whetham has $8,280.64 — fourth in the heading and heeling standings 

This summer has seen Waylon Cameron of Oxford, Pennsylvania, and Ryan Whetham of Woodstown, New Jersey, finish second at the June 7 Cowtown Rodeo with a 7.9-second run to earn $790 a man and third at the June 14 edition with a 6.8-second run worth $781 a man. A week later, on June 21, the team was second in Cowtown after going 6.3 seconds to pocket $1,015 a man. From there, they were 6.4 seconds to finish second in Elkton, Maryland, for $959 a man, and were second in Gerry with a 6.1-second run to bring home $952 a man. 

Jose Mota and Angel Mota 

The team has won $7,078.67 — fifth in the heading and heeling standings 

The father-son duo of Jose and Angel Mota of Monroe Township, New Jersey, made most of their money this summer at Cowtown Rodeo. Starting on June 21, they made a 6.4-second run to finish third and take home $804 a man. On July 12, they were 7.7 seconds to finish second and earn $761 a man. In Elkton, they won $559 a man for a 6.8-second run. Back in Woodstown Pilesgrove, they were 8.9 seconds on Aug. 2 to win $849 a man, 6.7 seconds to finish second on Aug. 16 for $818 a man and won the Aug. 23 rodeo with an 8.0-second run for $954 a man.
