Logan Vander Hamm and Fine Spiced Vintage, by One Fine Vintage out of Tangys Last Chexs by Tangys Classy Peppy, won the Royal Crown Limited Heeling Feb. 7, 2025, for a total of $9,070.
Vander Hamm, 15, and the family-owned 2019 mare topped the field with a 588.08 after four rounds, all of which had Reed Boos helping on the head side. They kicked off the Limited Heeling with a 144.19 in Round 1, followed by the win in Round 2 with a 147.83. A 146.44 secured them the high call spot in the short round, and they nabbed the average win with a 149.62 in the short round. Vander Hamm and Fine Spiced Vintage picked up $1,176 for sire One Fine Vintage’s owners and $504 for the breeders, both of which are Robertson Ranches. Throughout the evening, Vander Hamm was focused on doing his job.
“I wanted to catch the cows,” Vander Hamm, of Ingalls, Kansas, said. “I tried to get up in a good spot going down the arena and then heel them and get a good dally, keeping my hand on her neck and letting her stand still.”
Vander Hamm also won fifth on Just Wright Time by Hickory Holly Time out of Just Wright Lilly by Hes Wright On for another $2,690.
Fine Spiced Vintage
The Vander Hamm family has bought Fine Spiced Vintage two years ago from California horse trainer Les Oswald after seeing her at a futurity. While she’s mostly been ridden by Vander Hamm’s older brother, Jhett, he’s a big fan of their first One Fine Vintage offspring.

“She’s very easy to get along with her,” Vander Hamm said. “She’s a friendly horse.”
Vander Hamm also had a top-notch rope horse trainer in his corner during the Limited Heeling, giving him advice and feedback: 2024 AQHA Senior Heeling World Champion and three-time NFR qualifier Dakota Kirchenschlager.
“We hang out a lot,” Vander Hamm said. “We go over there for about a week every month. We sent a horse to him and then we’d go ride, and we like hanging out everywhere. He always reminds me not to turn in until he turns. On my roan, I’d been getting in there too close and then you can’t heel the steers if you’re stopped and they’re going 20 miles an hour.”
As Vander Hamm is still young and getting the hang of the futurity side of the industry, he appreciates the addition of the Limited class, which is open to horses of any age–so long as they’re sired by a Royal Crown stallion–and headers 5 and under or heelers 6.5 and under.

“It’s fun because we’ve been coming here quite a little, and I like this new class,” Vander Hamm said. “We’ve always been in the Intermediate, so this is fun.”
