How do team ropers qualify for Denver?

The top 30 from the 2024 PRCA world standings, the top five from the 2025 world standings and the top five from the 2024 Mountain States Circuit standings (who have not already qualified in the previous two categories) were invited. From the qualifier, held Dec. 20-21, 2024, 40 teams advanced.

What is the NWSSR format?

Performances

  • All events will have two full go-rounds, ran in consecutive performances. The first 16 performances will feature eight brackets of 10 teams, and contestants will run their go-rounds back-to-back (see schedule).
  • The top three in the aggregate on two runs in each bracket will advance to the semi-finals rounds.

The Semi-Finals

  • The semi-finals progressive round will consist of three performances. Each performance will have eight contestants.
  • The top four contestants of each semi-finals performance will advance to the finals.

The Finals

12 contestants will compete in the finals on Sunday, Jan. 26.
The fastest time of the finals will earn the title of National Western Stock Show Rodeo champion.

What is the payout

The team roping has a purse of $143,750 ($71,875 per end). Here’s how the payoff will break down in each round, according to the PRCA:

“After the 6% is retained for the PRCA, 45% of the remaining amount will be allotted for the first two go-rounds (22.5% for each go-round) and each go-round will play 8 places. 30% will be allotted to the semi-finals (10% for each of the three semi-finals performances) and will each pay 4 places. 25% will be allotted to the finals which will pay 8 places. There will be no average payoff.”
