One of the most prestigious rodeos of the ProRodeo season, the Cheyenne Frontier Days also holds significance for the Mountain States Circuit.

For Mountain States Circuit team ropers, showing out in Cheyenne can potentially set their entire year up. With the first Semifinals kicking off July 25, 2025, there are two Mountain States teams and two lone rangers still alive in the fight.

Kyle Polich/T.J. Watts

Kyle Polich and T.J. Watts made a statement winning the fourth performance with a 9.0-second run for $2,000 a man. Polich is currently unranked, but he’s a Mountain States native from Colorado. Prior to their round win, Watts was lower in the Mountain States Circuit at No. 28 with $906.39, so keeping their momentum in Cheyenne could get them closer to a circuit finals qualification.

Garrett Tonozzi

Two-time NFR qualifier Garrett Tonozzi may be teamed up with Turquoise Circuit heeler J.W. Borrego, but he’s still representing the home team. A Colorado native now making his home in Texas, Tonozzi is a five-time and reigning Mountain States Circuit year-end champion and currently sits fourth in the standings with $13,964.98. Tonozzi and Borrego turned in a 12.1 in the second performance to win fourth for $500 a man.

Talon Salazar

Colorado’s Talon Salazar sits right outside the circuit finals cut at No. 13 in the Mountain States Circuit standings with $3,066.98 won on the year. The 20-year-old is still just a PRCA permit holder and is heeling behind Arizona’s Justin Young. Young and Salazar tied for third in the fourth performance with a 10.3-second run for $750 apiece.

Luke Brown and Trey Yates

Luke Brown and Trey Yates need no introduction as they have 18 NFR qualifications between them. While Brown is a South Carolina native now making his home in Texas, he’s teamed up with Colorado kid Yates to sit No. 3 and No. 1 in the Mountain States Circuit team roping standings with $14,344.59 and $17,217.47, respectively. Brown and Yates were a 9.4 in the third performance to win $1,500 and punch their tickets to the Semifinals.
