Tyler Tryan and Logan Moore have widened their lead in the 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year race with $53,803.80 and $47,394.16 won on the year.

Tryan, 18, now leads the heading by $23,356.02 and Moore, 22, leads the heeling by $17,507.63. Vying for the year-end titles behind them at No. 2 are header Korbin Rice with $30,447.78 and heeler Denton Dunning with $29,886.53.

Collecting checks

Tryan and Moore started the year roping together, but Dunning stepped in for Moore while he competed at the College National Finals Rodeo in June. Since Moore’s return, he and Tryan have been on a tear.

Tryan and Moore picked back up quick with a $4,935-a-man check at the Reno Rodeo June 21-29. They followed that with $10,191 each over Cowboy Christmas. Between Montana’s BigFork Summer ProRodeo and Casper, Wyoming’s Central Wyoming Fair & PRCA Rodeo, the Texas kids both pocketed $3,420 to keep the momentum rolling after the Fourth run.

They hit a dry spell for two weeks after Casper, but they came back with a vengeance. Since the last weekend of July, Tryan and Moore have raked in $17,910 a man. The young guns pocketed $4,764 each at South Dakota’s Deadwood Days Of ’76 Rodeo to round out the month, then kicked off August with a $5,013-a-man trip to the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo in Kansas. They’ve also been successful at some recent one-headers, winning The War Bonnet Round Up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for $3,615 a man and second at the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo in Castle Rock, Colorado for $4,518 each.

How’s that compare?

If their lead alone isn’t impressive, their current year-end earnings sure are. With just seven weeks left on the 2024 ProRodeo season, Tryan and Moore are inching up on the 2023 Resistol Rookie of the Year winners’ earnings.

In 2023, Cole Thomas won the Resistol Rookie Header of the Year title with $59,480.67; on the heel side, Kaden Profili took the 2023 title with $51,048.09. Tryan and Moore are just $5,676.87 and $3,653.93 behind last year’s winning earnings.
