The PRCA has announced the cancellation of the Uvalde Rodeo Qualifier and Prairie Circuit Finals as the EHV-1 outbreak continues to evolve across Texas and surrounding regions.
The PRCA, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and the WPRA announced Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, that the Uvalde San Antonio Rodeo Qualifier, scheduled for Nov. 19–22, has been canceled following guidance from the Texas Animal Health Commission. The rodeo serves as a qualifier for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, advancing 10 teams from the Qualifying Rodeo in Uvalde to the San Antonio Rodeo Feb. 12-28.
The PRCA also made the decision to cancel the Boot Barn Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo, held in Mulvane, Kansas, Nov. 19-22. The news comes following the cancellation of the Barrel Futurities of America (BFA) in Guthrie, Oklahoma, this week as well.
In its statement, the PRCA said it is actively monitoring outbreaks of EHV/EHM as well as ongoing management of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). State and industry officials have issued alerts and recommendations for enhanced biosecurity and monitoring, and they emphasize that the safety and well-being of the animal athletes remain the top priority. Additional information on how the Uvalde cancellation will affect the contestant field for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in February will be released once details are finalized.
PRCA veterinarian Dr. Doug Corey, DVM, urges horse owners to implement strict biosecurity measures, keeping their animals clean and separate from others, and checking temperatures regularly.
