This sale offers Clovis Livestock’s normal broad selection of horses, but it also features about 40 head of team roping horses. They’ll be showcased with a 12-slide drawpot with a $10,000 purse and prize line from Top Hand Ropes, a mainstay of the Clovis portfolio. The draw-four format is progressive on one, so horses can make a maximum of 16 runs—giving consignors ample opportunity to show what their horses can do.

The Select Online Sale has spent the last four years growing into the biggest online horse sale in the business, specific one-day sales offering elite-caliber embryos, prospects, performers, stallions and broodmares. The Select Online’s Labor Day Yearling Sale offers yearlings fit through Solo Select’s specific sale-fitting program, with updated x-rays available on each colt.

The Pitzer Ranch has been hosting sales since 1977 and now offers both a spring and fall sale. The fall sale coincides with the ranch’s HP Ranch Horse Invitational a few days earlier on Sept. 4, the highest-paying ranch horse competition in the country with its 100% payback, $100,000 purse. The sale itself offers legendary bloodlines that go back to famed Pitzer stallion Two Eyed Jack, out of some of the ranch’s 400-plus head of broodmares. Those mares have produced more than $300,000 in Riata Buckle earners in just the last two years, as well as NFR head and heel horses and AQHA champions. Find everything from weanlings to aged ranch and rope horses.

The Philipp family has been raising horses in South Texas since the 1970s, and sons Shane and John Philipp train and compete on most horses in their annual sale alongside family patriarch, Johnnie. This sale offers 2-year-olds and up, by ranch stallions Curtis Dracula, Curtis Done Dun It, Cash One Pepto and Clean N Shiney. All babies are Riata Buckle eligible. Come for the sale but stay for the Ariat World Series of Team Roping qualifier, Sept. 9 to 11.

St. Clair Performance Horses offers offspring by their studs—Stunned, Four Bonnie Bay, The Metallic Patron and Smart Boon. With 90 lots offered, the sale starts with an 8:30 a.m. preview to showcase rope horses of all levels—many eligible for the Gold Buckle Futurities, Riata Buckle, Royal Crown Roping and the Iowa Ranch Horse Stallion Breeders Program and Futurity. The sale also offers a selected group of guest consignors.

Billings Livestock Sales is one of the oldest continuous livestock auctions in America. Their Cow Country Classic Catalog Horse Sale will have a team roping jackpot for sale horses on Friday, with the sale also highlighting breakaway horses, cutting horses, reiners, riding horses and calf horses—plus Billings’ usual offering of loose horses.

The Pink Buckle Select Sale has the industry’s top running-bred prospects, but in 2023, the Relentless Remuda’s Miles Baker and Trevor Brazile rolled in and topped the sale with Blackkout, a 2021 son of Winners Version out of RC Back In Black. In 2024, the sale promises more great prospects, performers and breeding stock loaded with black-type pedigrees. Sale graduates are promised a $200,000 incentive in the Open 4D and $100,000 in the Futurity

This is The Select Online’s premier yearling sale. With the colts all on-site at Solo Select since July 20 at the latest, the selection is in tip-top shape, fueled by Solo’s ADM Animal Nutrition program and leading sale-fitter Dustin Price’s fitness and grooming program. In 2023, the top five yearlings in the fall sale averaged $85,700, led by Calamiity Jane, the 2022 palomino filly by Playgun out of the High Brow Cat mare Catilax, who sold for $122,500.

Western Bloodstock’s NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sale coincides with the American Rope Horse Futurity Association’s World Championship, and while the sale primarily markets to the cow horse industry, team ropers have indeed bought some great ones out of the sale, too. Stallion Reys Of Pep, Jake Cooper’s ARHFA Head Horse of the Year ridden by Kaleb Driggers and Colby Lovell, is a Western Bloodstock graduate. In 2023, rope horse breeders Southern Ranches consigned Black Magic Woman, a Shining Spark daughter out of Carrera Cat, by Metallic Cat, and the horse brought a massive $180,000—the highest-selling yearling in NRCHA Sale history. The overall average for the 2023 sale was $32,855.

The Clovis Horse Sale Futurity puts up a $30,000 purse for its futurity for horses sold as yearlings through one of its four annual sales, fashioned specifically after the World’s Greatest Horseman’s dry work, cow work and steer stopping competitions. The event also offers a heading and heeling futurity, all running alongside the November sale with its standard CLS catalog of prospects, performers and using horses.

The Thanksgiving Select Online Sale offers superstar stallions and prospects, broodmares and performers across Western disciplines. In 2023, the Thanksgiving sale offered the much-anticipated embryo by Woody Be Tuff out of Junior Nogueira’s mare, Apache R Hali.

This sale’s so epic, it needs six days of action to get the job done. A staple of the NCHA Futurity, this Western Bloodstock Sale is a place for cutters to find their next futurity champ—but along the way, plenty of these horses end up in the roping pen. In 2023, the sale realized an overall average of $57,767, while the sale of 83 horses for $100,000 or more smashed the 2022 NCHA Futurity Sales record of 66. Bloodlines like those of Stevie Rey Von, Metallic Cat, Dual Rey and Hashtags have been standouts in the roping pen, and this is one of the places to find the very best of that variety.

The Riata Sale will feature 50 horses, selected to showcase in front of the industry’s top buyers. In the gambling spirit of Vegas, all the Calcutta teams from the Open to the World will be auctioned with the horses. The Riata Open to the World Finale follows the sale. Horses must have at least 90 days riding before the sale, and they’ll preview Saturday afternoon, Dec. 7. Starting in 2025, a $100,000 incentive, for horses purchased here, will be awarded to the highest-earning rope horses at the Riata.
