The opportunity is there

The tight 2024 ProRodeo All-Around Championship has opened up a bit heading into Round 10 of the National Finals Rodeo, with Coleman Proctor putting some distance between himself and peers Shad Mayfield and Junior Nogueira.

Mayfield led the race until Round 9, where Proctor scored his second Round win with Logan Medlin on the heels with a 3.8-second run. That $33,687 payday brought his NFR total to $140,945—the best NFR he’s ever had and a far cry from Mayfield’s $70,310 earned thus far.

If Proctor can continue to hold his peers off, it would be his first All-Around Championship. Stetson Wright has had the title wrapped up the last 5 years, but a hamstring injury sustained at the 2023 NFR gave other cowboys a small window of opportunity.

If it ended now

If the ProRodeo All-Around was determined following Round 9, Proctor would be the Champion. His No. 4 position in the average would pay $40,750, bumping his earnings to $367,398.

Mayfield’s $29,340 average finish and Nogueira’s $8,150 average finish wouldn’t be enough to catch him.

But wait… Round 10 scenarios

The worse case scenario for Proctor
Proctor and Medlin are currently No. 4 in the average, which pays $40,750. But with leg or no-time in Round 10, they could fall as far as eighth in the average, paying $8,150 a man. That would put him at $334,798 in overall earnings.

Scenarios where Mayfield could win
Mayfield is currently No. 5 in the average, which pays $29,340. If Proctor stumbles, Mayfield would have to earn at least $10,736 in Round 10 plus hold his No. 5 average finish to surpass Proctor’s $334,798 in earnings.

Scenarios were Nogueira could win
Nogueira and partner Kaleb Driggers could rise from No. 8 to No. 3 in the average on the slim chance that everyone ahead of them in the average misses. That would pay $55,420, bringing Nogueira to $348,460 and besting Proctor’s $334,798.
But what if they don’t rise that much in the average? With Proctor’s guaranteed $8,150 average payday, Nogueira has a minimum of $41,758 to win. He’s currently slated for a No. 8 finish in the average, paying $8,150. To win with the $8K average check, Nogueira would have to win Round 10, which pays $33,687, bridging the $33,608 gap by $79 and earning himself the ProRodeo All-Around. That hinges on Proctor fumbling in Round 10, too.
