The Spicer Gripp Committee is excited to announce that beginning in 2027, the annual Spicer Gripp Memorial will be held the first full weekend in May, marking the start of a new chapter for one of the Panhandle’s premier western events.
For more than three decades, the Spicer Gripp Memorial Youth Foundation has been a celebration of competition, agriculture, and community, bringing together contestants, families, volunteers, and sponsors from across the country while raising scholarship funds for area youth.
Why the Spicer Gripp Memorial Is Moving to Spring
After careful consideration and conversations with contestants, producers, sponsors, and industry leaders, the committee believes a spring event will better position the Spicer Gripp Memorial for continued growth and long-term success.
“While the dates are changing, our mission remains exactly the same,” said the SG Executive Committee. “Our commitment to honoring Spicer’s legacy by investing in young people and providing one of the best western events in the country has never been stronger.”
The new dates also provide opportunities to better align with today’s rodeo schedules, attract a strong field of competitors, and continue delivering the first-class experience that contestants and spectators have come to expect.
What to Expect at the 2027 Spicer Gripp Memorial
The 2027 event will feature the traditions that have made the Spicer Gripp Memorial a favorite—including premier roping competition, scholarship presentations, western hospitality, and community fellowship.
The committee extends its sincere appreciation to the sponsors, volunteers, contestants, and supporters whose dedication has allowed the event to grow year after year.
“Every decision we make is with the future of this event in mind,” the SG Executive Committee said. “We’re excited about what lies ahead and look forward to welcoming everyone to Hereford next spring.”
