2010 Kendra Santos Communications Scholarship Awarded

The 2010 Kendra Santos Communications Scholarship was awarded July 19 at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo. There was a tie at the top for this year’s second annual $2,500 scholarship, which was started in 2009 to help young rodeo contestants interested in pursuing careers in a media-related field.

NHSRA Executive Director Kent Sturman and PRCA Director of Communications Kendra Santos, who also serves as editor of Spin To Win Rodeo magazine, presented the scholarship to Shyan Souza of Three Rivers, Calif. (second from left), and Meaghan Ghormley of Bedias, Texas (far right).

Souza, a two-time NHSRA Finals breakaway roper, will start college as a communications major at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in the fall. Ghormley, the 2010 Texas state champion pole bender, who this year competed at and won her first NHSRA Finals, will be an agricultural communications major at Texas A & M in College Station in the fall.
