Buckle Up with Colby Lovell
Lovell's RodeoHouston Ranch Rodeo buckle sets him apart.

Colby Lovell isn’t just a team roper—and he wears a buckle to prove it. Lovell won RodeoHouston’s Ranch Rodeo in 2015 with a team of guys from Madisonville, Texas.

“Our team is a bunch of guys from around home and we all help each other work cows,” Lovell said. “And our ranch bronc rider is from Colorado, Brooks Blynn. You can’t buck him off.”

For the win, Lovell’s Big L Ranch took home $30,000, plus the $5,000 they won for winning the finals in the calf branding and the pasture doctoring. Lovell picked up another $250 for winning Top Horse.

“I rode a horse I raised called Big Time,” Lovell said. “He’s a younger horse, I rode him last year at the BFI. You can shoot a gun on him, cut a calf, put him in the ranch cutting. He’s a good horse.”

Lovell has won three NFR go-round buckles, a Pendleton Round-Up buckle and countless others, but this ranch rodeo buckle is something few other team ropers can sport.

“Not very many people can say they won RodeoHouston in the ranch rodeo, especially not guys that team rope,” Lovell said with a smile.
