Coleman Proctor’s having a career year complete with all-around championships at the Daddy of ’em All in Cheyenne and the Pendleton Round-Up. He’s also contending for two gold buckles here in Cowboy Town this week, and currently sits sixth in the world heading standings and third in the world all-around race.

Coleman’s one busy man day and night here in Vegas. But he made time for the Big 4 Rodeo Association’s presentation of the saddle that goes with the prestigious Big 4 Award, which is won by the person who puts together the most points at a run of four rodeos—the Pendleton Round-Up, Lewiston Round-Up, Walla Walla Frontier Days and Kennewick Horse Heaven Round-Up.

“To win the Big 4 is a dream come true,” said Coleman, who’s won $46,947.23 in the first six rounds here at the 2024 NFR heading for Logan Medlin. “I first went to the Northwest 17 years ago, and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would pull off winning such a prestigious award. This is definitely one of the greatest accomplishments of my career.”

Pendleton Round-Up President Tiah DeGrofft and Pendleton Round-Up Vice President Pat Reay presented Coleman his custom Wild West Saddlery saddle here this week over at the South Point, which is, of course, home of the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale. Wild West’s Blake West crafted the saddle to Coleman’s specs, and also made this year’s Pendleton steer roping saddle, which was won by Trenton Johnson.

“Blake asked me what tree I wanted in my Big 4 saddle,” Coleman said. “I chuckled, and said, ‘Same one that’s in that Pendleton steer roping saddle.’ This is a heck of a consolation prize for almost winning Pendleton. I don’t think there’s a more cowboy award than winning the Big 4. I want to ride this saddle, especially when I’m cowboying at the house.”
