Tate Kirchenschlager and SBD Sugar Me Sweet and Shay Carroll and JKC Playen Lectric both took an early chance to separate themselves from the pack in the Royal Crown 8 & Under in Waco, Texas.

In the heading, Kirchenschlager and SBD Sugar Me Sweet were the picture of consistency. With Kirchenschlager’s ProRodeo partner Cole Davison cleaning up the heels, the team won all four rounds of competition, turning in scores of 131.29, 132.65, 135.74, and 135.14 points and picking up $3,000 for the rounds. In the aggregate, SBD Sugar Me Sweet pulled in a cool $2,400 with his combined score of 534.82 on four head. Breeders Joe and Carla Spitz, and the owners of Streakin Boon Dox also earned $630 each.

“I pretty much just sit up there and pilot him. He’s a nice horse,” Kirchenschlager said. “You can run 10 on him a day and he’ll never upset you. He’s just that type. For as big as he is, he can move pretty well.”

The 15.3-hand gelding is a 2015 model by Streakin Boon Dox and out of Frenchmans Red Rose, by Frenchmans Guy. Kirchenschlager sang his praises to owners Monty and Jessica Lewis for bringing him along well.

“Anytime I get one from Jessica and Monty, I get excited. They’re putting together a really good program—they put the time and thought in—and it’s making a great string of horses,” Kirchenschlager said.

Although the gelding won’t be entered again during the Waco event, Kirchenschlager added that he will plan on using him to help heelers during the remaining ropings.

JKC Playen Lectric is a 2016 mare by Playen Spades and out of Letric Playboy by Lectric Playboy. Carroll, a three-time NFR qualifier himself, picked six-time NFR qualifier Cody Snow to help out on the head side.
