New Year, New Leaders in the USTRC Cinch Ladies Standings
Georgia ropers Sarah Toole and Della Spurlock rang in the New Year by claiming the top spots in their pursuit of the USTRC Cinch Ladies Year-End Award.

HEADERS

Top 10 Notable Headers

Over the New Year’s Eve weekend, JX2 Productions rang in 2022 with the South Georgia Super Qualifier, in which 16-year-old header Sarah Toole managed to amass 27 points. The 5.5 header started out strong with a first-place win worth 10 points with partner Colton Allen in the #13.5 USTRC, then followed up with a second-place finish in the #12.5 for 9 points and a third-place finish in the #10.5 for another 8 points. Added to the 25 points she earned in June 2021 at the North Alabama Championships, she takes the lead heading toward April’s 2022 Cinch National Finals of Team Roping.

Former leaderboard champ Shawnee Murphy from Iowa now sits in the No. 2 spot, while her mom, Jana, also gets a bump to fourth place to accommodate Lindsborg, Kansas’ Jill Elwood and the 5 points she earned with a sixth-place finish in the #8.5 at Jeff Smith’s New Year’s Eve Super Bowl Ropings at Oklahoma’s Lazy E. Elwood starts the year now with a total of 36 points.

New to the Top 10 Headers are Roanoke, Alabama’s Gracie Anna Green and Annona, Texas’ Presley Spoonemore. Green—an 18-year-old, 3 header—appears in the sixth-place hole with a total of 29 points earned entirely at Allen’s Roping Productions Northwest Georgia Classic in November. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Spoonemore, a 4.5 roper, finds herself ranked No. 9 after amassing a total of 25 points: 8 at May’s Northeast Texas Summer Classic and 17 at November’s Four States Winter Classic.

HEELERS

Top 10 Notable Heelers

Baldwin, Georgia’s Della Spurlock upset the heeling standings with a 9-point jump to 22 points to unseat Virginia’s Sally Ball by just a single point and end her months-long reign at No. 1. Spurlock, 28, is a 4 roper who was previously in a two-way tie for third with 13 points. She cleared the air and the standings when she took second place in the South Georgia Super Qualifier #8.5, heeling for her husband, Casey.

Lorie Patterson, of Konawa, Oklahoma, enters the Top 10 at No. 3 this month after winning two holes—second and fifth—for a total of 15 points in the #9.5 Legends at the All Star Team Roping in Mounds, Oklahoma, in late November.
