The 2020 Philipp Ranch Production Sale will run in conjunction with the family’s Bryan, Texas, Ariat World Series of Team Roping Qualifier, offering 43 horses—including 25 rope horses—for every level of competitor.

The 2020 Philipp Ranch Production Sale will run in conjunction with the family’s Bryan, Texas, Ariat World Series of Team Roping Qualifier, offering 43 horses—including 25 rope horses—for every level of competitor.

The qualifier will run Oct. 9 through Oct. 11, 2020, with the sale preview Oct. 9 and the sale itself Oct. 10 at the Brazos County Expo Center.

“The Philipp family has produced great horses for decades, and they put on great ropings, too,” WSTR Director of Roping Operations Ty Yost said. “Add to that everything College Station has to offer nearby, and this is going to be a great destination for ropers from across the country to attend.”

All the rope horses in the sale have been trained by John and Shane Philipp, and ropers will be able to watch them all work in the preview on live cattle.

“We open a time frame for people to come to the ranch and try the horses one, two, three times,” Shane said. “That’s what really sets our sale apart. People can know what they’re getting and make sure they’ll know they’re getting the right horse for them. All of the horses, we’ve either raised or bought at a very young age.”

Leading auctioneer Steve Friskup will call the sale, which will also feature 15 weanlings and three well-started fillies that aren’t yet roping live cattle. All riding horses in the sale have been ridden outside, and many have been to major jackpots like the Cervi and ProRodeos across the country.

Key bloodlines are those of the family’s son of Dun Commander, Commander Curtis, and their son of Cat Itchi, Genuine Katz.

The sale and WSTR qualifier are happening over the same weekend as a Texas A&M Football home game, so the Philipps family has teamed up with the Stella Hotel (thestellahotel.com) to ensure ropers can find rooms over the busy weekend.

The WSTR’s Texas Title Fights
The Ariat World Series of Team Roping will produce the 2020 Texas Title Fights at the Circle T Arena in Hamilton, Texas, Oct. 23 through Oct. 25, 2020—bringing Texans a taste of the Title Fight format proven wildly successful in Arizona each February.

The qualifier will offer a brand new #9.5 Over 40 Heartland Finale with its $500-per-roper fee, and Cactus Saddles and Gist Buckles to the winners. The format—already successful in other parts of the country, too—will give ropers over 40 a chance at a roping designed specifically for them, with its roper-friendly setup and cattle.

Ropers must have a Key Card or Ariat World Series of Team Roping card to enter, and Global Handicaps numbers will be used.
