One-header ProRodeo in Sisters, Oregon

Split the win with Jake Cooper and Sid Sporer, worth $3,046

SITUATION
There were only nine teams in the slack, and we were fourth or fifth out. We started it out and, most of the time, Sisters allows you to just make a decent run and win something. We were just trying to make our run at that point.
STEERS
They’d only had two runs a piece before Sisters. The steers were juicy on the back end, and a guy dang sure had to stand them up. I played him pretty good. He looked like he was going to be on the better end. He wasn’t quite as fleshy. You can really look at a native steer and tell. He was not quite as full in the belly and a little dead-haired, and he was on the better end for sure.
HORSE
This horse is Deetz, and he’s 9. He’s good outside, and he’s explosive out of the box. I feel like the two horses I have right now have a strength of being able to do what I need to do with the steer in the corner. My horse really let me push up and let me take that steer’s head soft. I wanted to get his head soft so his shoulders followed.
No, This Isn’t the Same Story. Rhen Richard Gets Royal Crown No. 9 Win of 2022.
UPPER BODY
I want my upper body clean, not up over my horse, so when I do pull my slack I’m driving with my seat and squeezing with my feet on the right part of my horse so he pulls the cow with his back end instead of his front end.
FEET
I didn’t have to do much because my horse was gaining when I roped. I was in a spot where I didn’t have to squeeze up, so I was already there and just had to wait.
LEFT HAND
I’m waiting for that steer’s shoulders to come, so I’ve got my left rein on my horse’s neck and telling him to respect that rein and not go until I take the rein pressure off.
