The CoJo Team Roping Open kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m., in an enter three times format that will award Bill Fick Ford F-350s and Bloomer Trailers to the winners of the George Strait-style roping.
The roping features a golf tournament Oct. 16, #12.5 Oct. 17, #10.5 with an #8.5 Incentive Oct. 18, ProAm Oct. 19 and 60-team Open Short Round Saturday afternoon, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
When the roping begins Oct. 15, ropers will enter with their second and third partners, giving us some exciting, rarely-seen teams to watch.
(Editor’s note: This is just for funsies, so nobody feel left out please.)
Here are just some we’re looking forward to seeing, in no particular order, at the CoJo:
Aaron Tsinigine and Kyle Lockett: Because they’re always a favorite and we haven’t seen them rope together in a minute.
Chad Masters and Joseph Harrison: Because they’re a fun veteran teams to watch, and it’s exciting to see Joseph go off on them when he’s been living in horse show land all year.
Clay Smith and Nicky Northcott: Nicky Northcott is already getting the best headers in the game, and he’s been explosive behind Clay Smith thus far.
Colby Lovell and Joseph Harrison: Lovell’s one of those everyone runs to the fence to see when he decides to get off the ranch in Madisonville.
Coleman Proctor and Logan Medlin: Nope, they’re not a new team at all. But they’re great in this setup.
Erich Rogers and Cory Petska: Well, these world champs are always fun to watch when they’re jackpotting. Add Jake Clay and Tanner Tomlinson to Petska’s lineup, and this could get really interesting.
Ketch Kelton and Denton Dunning: If we have to explain this one, you’ve clearly not been paying attention.
Tyler Tryan and Hunter Koch: Hunter Koch is now the veteran of the team, and the reigning American Champ will surely have one of his great horses behind the young gun who can really use his long game.
Kaleb Driggers and Jade Corkill: These two are showstoppers no matter who they rope with… but these partners from 2012 are must-sees when they’re together. Corkill’s also got Bubba Buckaloo and Luke Brown, so… he’s stacked.
Jake Smith and Douglas Rich: Not a new or unlikely team, but because Cade Passig accurately pointed out that I left them off the “teams to watch at the Riata” last month, I won’t make that mistake again.
James Arviso and Landon Glenn: Because these two are veteran jackpotters even if they’re still too young to celebrate with a beer afterward.
Bubba Buckaloo and Michael Calmelat: Lil Mike isn’t so little anymore and he’s paired with one of the best jackpotters ever.
Nelson Wyatt and Wyatt Cox: Because I’m going to have hell typing that over and over again in Instagram captions.
Rhen Richard and Dillon Graham: We haven’t gotten to see Rhen go fast outside the futurities all summer really.
Tanner Tomlinson and Cory Petska: Yes.
Tyler Wade and Wesley Thorp: Reigning world champs and all…
