Gregory Mitchell defended his title with 123 points to claim back-to-back Junior Resistol year-end championships—highlighted by a key performance at the Cinch USTRC National Finals.
The 16-year-old from Adairsville, Georgia, celebrated by enjoying a turkey hunt as soon as he got home from Fort Worth—but before that, he was doing what has worked for him all season.
“I just had a pretty decent year, placing pretty consistently,” Mitchell said.
But it was his performance in Fort Worth that helped seal the deal.
Mitchell came into the Cinch USTRC National Finals with the lead and made sure he didn’t leave anything to chance, finishing fourth in the Bloomer #11.5 Shootout for $21,400—points that proved critical in locking up the title.
“I’m happy,” he said. “It’s been a pretty cool feeling.”
Some of his biggest wins this year came from the North Alabama Championship, where he won 20 points for two first-place finishes; a big showing at the Tennessee Special in August with 26 points over three ropings; and a huge weekend in his home state at the Northwest Georgia Classic, where he won 38 points over four ropings.
With all the wins, Mitchell was full of gratitude for who helped him get there.
“My parents and Jesus,” he said.
