WCRA Rodeo Corpus Christi kicked off with youth athletes from across the nation delivering standout performances in the $55,000 CEAT Division Youth Showcase May 6.
While only one team got a time in the team roping, they made it count. Austin Perez and Kutter Richardson won the WCRA DY Showcase with a 15.64-second run. Despite breaking the barrier, they still pocketed $5,000 each a man in ground money.
Perez currently sits second in the WCRA DY Junior division heading with 2,284 points, while Richardson is seventh with 1,253 points.
Perez, from Santa Rosa, Texas, has only been heading for three years and competes in Region VIII of the Texas High School Rodeo Association. Richardson, 16, is a Lufkin, Texas, kid who competes in THSRA Region V.
