RodeoHouston 2025 kicks off inside NRG Stadium March 4-23, this year with an increased total payout of $2.5 million. Here’s everything you need to know about the team roping and the 40 teams set to rope at one of the largest rodeos of the year.


RodeoHouston Team Roping Qualification Criteria

  1. Past two RodeoHouston Super Series Champions (2023 & 2024).
  2. One Special Invitation from HLSR Management.
  3. 2024 Permit Finals Champion. If co-champions exist, the tie will bebroken based upon the tie-breakers listed in the Permit Finals GroundRules.
  4. 2024 Waller County Fair & Rodeo Champion. If co-champions exist, thetie will be broken based upon the published 2023 official PRCA worldstandings.
  5. 2024 Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo Champion. If co-champions exist,the tie will be broken based upon the published 2023 official PRCA worldstandings.
  6. Top 31 of the published 2024 official PRCA world standings.
  7. Top three of the published 2025 official PRCA world standings (as of Dec. 1, 2024), excluding the circuit finals, not already qualified through the above criteria.
  8. Any remaining or open positions will be filled from the published 2024 official PRCA world standings.

The 40 headers that are selected must rope with the 40 heelers that are selected to compete. If a contestant’s partner is drawn out due to qualification, the contestant who qualified will not be allowed to draw out. Contestants who are not able to be matched with their listed partner will be given the opportunity to choose a partner from the qualified list communicated by RodeoHouston, or a replacement partner will be drawn at random from the other contestants whose partners were drawn out due to qualification. If a contestants partner is disqualified, the contestant who was not disqualified will be allowed to continue through the competition.

What’s the payout at RodeoHouston?

RodeoHouston increased its total purse to over $2.5 million in 2025. The team roping has a purse of $563,000 ($281,500 per side). In 2025, the RodeoHouston team roping champions will both pocket $65,000.

What is the format at RodeoHouston

RodeoHouston will feature five Super Series, each of which contains three rounds with eight contestants per event. The Top 4, based on total money won, in each Super Series will advance to the Semifinals.

There will be two Semifinal rounds with 10 contestants per event each round. The Top 4 in each Semifinals will advance to the Championship Round.

The remaining six teams from each Semifinals will compete in the Wild Card (a total of 12 teams). The top team out of each Wild Card round will advance to the Championship Round.

The Championship Round will feature 10 teams. The Top 4 teams will return for the Championship Shootout Round that same day. The Shootout will begin immediately following the Championship Round.
