Dear Roper,

I’m writing this editor’s letter wrapped up under blankets in Texas after 16 long days in Las Vegas at the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale and National Finals Rodeo.
As I sit here, we just got word that the Finale paid a massive $20.4 million in 2025. That’s up nearly $800,000 from last year, again solidifying its place as the richest event in the Western sports world. It’s by far the richest recreational sport in the world, too, with no other event coming within striking distance. “Cowboy Golf” is alive and well. The storylines run deep as always. From the tales told by the winners on the EQN Sports Desk (find them all over at Roping.com) to the written word you’ll find starting on page 50 in this issue, every roper has a story and we’re lucky to tell them.
Across town, Andrew Ward and Jake Long put on a show at the Thomas & Mack, and after 15 trips to the Finals, Jake finally got his gold buckle. The night of Round 10 is always special, and this year’s did not disappoint. If you haven’t yet, listen to our interview with Andrew and Jake on The Score Podcast. I don’t usually struggle to get through an interview like I did that one, but my emotions did get the best of me a few times.
This issue ends with dozens of pages of 2026 ropings you’ll need to put on the calendar. These associations and events had record years in 2025, and I see no reason to slow down any time soon. The money at these jackpots is good, the company is top-notch and the horsepower? Better than ever.
See you at the Title Fights in Wickenburg,
Chelsea
