Hazardouz Material, “Skeeter,” started out as a prospect Tres Osos planned to train and sell. He turned into the horse they could not let go.
A son of Metallic Cat out of Scooters Daisy Dukes, Skeeter caught Dave Mize’s eye after they had looked more than 100 prospects.
“He was the one that could stop and move his front feet,” Mize remembered.
Skeeter had some early misfortune but hit his stride as a 5-year-old. From there, he just went to winning with Erin Taormino, who has always been Hazardouz Material’s biggest fan.
In 2025, Taormino won the title of World’s Greatest Horseman aboard Hazardouz Material, putting her and the horse in the NRCHA history books.
Hazardouz Material is a phenomenal stopper, a genuine herd horse and a classic example of a good-minded Metallic Cat son. Between him and his half-brother Scooter Cat, there is about $1 million in earnings on their dam’s produce record, and Skeeter is still adding to that total.
In their own breeding program, Tres Osos is targeting “hot and spicy” mares that add snap and run. Their goal is simple: “Make winners,” Mize said.
Whether it is a cow horse that can mark big in all three events or a rope horse that can go win at the World Series Finale, Hazardouz Material is being bred to make athletes that can handle real pressure and still look good doing it.
