Bubba and Courtney Nixa share more than 30 years in the horse industry—breeding, racing, showing and team roping. The couple was fortunate enough to acquire one of the top 25 rope-horse sires going today, Jazarell Cat.

The bay roan stallion has earned more than $43,000 in the NCHA and sired several cutting standouts.

An own son of High Brow Cat, Jazarell Cat’s bottom side also sports one of the most prevalent sires of any rodeo heel horse, Doc Quixote. Jazarell Cat produced Wesley Thorp’s good rodeo horse Juiced Up Cat (out of a Shorty Lena granddaughter). “Juice” won Thorp the 2020 ARHFA World Championship in heeling as a 6-year-old, and garnered more than half Thorp’s rodeo earnings last season on his way to a second gold buckle.

“Juice was very smart and he had all the tools,” Thorp said. “Foot speed, athleticism and he was smooth.” 

Jazarell Cat also sired Sid Sporer’s and Corey Hendrick’s good horse Opie, an earner of more than $100,000 and the 2022 CPRA Heel Horse of the Year. 

“He’s really forgiving and lets you do whatever you need to do,” Lucas Falconer said of the gelding he borrowed from Sporer in 2021 to win the first round at Salt Lake City. “It feels like he’s always right there when he needs to be.”

Jazarell Cat’s offspring have earned more than $300,000 and have been super versatile, including last year’s Reserve World Champion Versatility Ranch Horse and Jett Petkovich’s barrel horse that clocked just a half-second off American Rodeo champ Brandon Cullin’s tough horse in 2023.

“This stallion’s babies are competitive, athletic, versatile and smart,” Nixa said. “So, we wanted to give the outside world a chance at breeding to him.”
