There’s good reason behind the buzz about Reliance Ranches’ Big Lew from his breeding and race record to his progeny.

Big Lew is by AQHA Hall of Fame sire Corona Cartel, the AQHA’s third all-time leading sire of money earners, and he had had eight wins including the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby en route to $638,878 in earnings. He retired sound after three years.

“He was an amazing individual, just the picture of a horse that could do it all,” according to Bobby Mote, Reliance Ranches’ trainer.

Sons and daughters of Big Lew have earned over $2.4 million from just five crops to reach racing age thus far. Proving his versatility as a sire, many also have second careers in the performance arena with early offspring winning in team roping, barrel racing and pole bending.

His progeny consistently demonstrate the trainability, calm demeanor and intelligence Big Lew is known for passing on, and trainers rave about the speed with which his foals learn and their retention, signs of horses capable of succeeding in any discipline.

Standing 15 hands, Big Lew can add brains to perform and speed to augment the cow breeding of many roping programs.
