When running to a steer, it is ideal if a horse will run to their spot and rate on their own—without being told to do so. In this video tip, brought to you by Genuine Billy Cook Saddles, Tate Kirchenschlager explains how he starts that process in his head horses and how he utilizes a breakaway rope to get that done.
“I’m doing this to teach him how to run freely to the steer with his shoulders up, and then I want him to match the stride of the steer once he gets to it. Then, after I rope, I want him to wait right there until I tell him what to do next.”
