When a horse drops its shoulders in the corner, you lose control of both the steer and the horse for a couple of strides during the run. In this video lesson, brought to you by Genuine Billy Cook Saddles, Tate Kirchenschlager explains the importance of keeping your horse’s shoulders elevated through the corner—and offers drills to help you gain control in the turn.
“When I rope, I want a horse’s shoulder to stand up and its left leg to get up underneath it,” Kirchenschlager said. “Then I want to be able to move its shoulders across to the left when I go to turn.”
