NFR header and ARHFA World Champ Tate Kirchenslager joins the ranks of Roping.com coaches to share his expertise with a new series of practice session training videos that launched May 13, 2024.
The series follows Kirchenslager as he works with a variety of young horses in his program and troubleshoots common rope horse training issues.
In the first video of the series, “Transitioning 4-Year-Old ‘Hashtags’ from Cow Horse to Heading,” Kirchenschlager demonstrates the training philosophies and strategies he employs to keep a young, strong horse calm and focused.
Roping.com members will enjoy weekly releases of new practice session videos from Kirchenshlager, including:
- 4-Year-Old Roo Star Gelding: In this full practice session, Kirchenschlager explains how he focuses on turning a steer on a gelding with six months of heading training.
- 5-Year-Old Hottish Gelding: This gelding just started in the heading after spending two years in a cow horse program. Through this session, Kirchenschlager works on keeping the horse’s shoulders up and how to maintain forward momentum through the turn.
- 4-Year-Old Traveling Jones Mare: In this practice session, Kirchenschlager focuses on teaching rate to a young mare with three months of heading training.
- 7-Year-Old Cow Horse with Two Weeks Heading Training: Kirchenschlager works on building a team roping foundation on a well-broke 7-year-old gelding who comes from the cow horse side of the arena. Kirchenschlager uses slower cattle to help the horse learn how to rate and turn the steer, and he focuses on getting the horse in the left lead before he leaves the box.
- 4-Year-Old Metallic Rebel Mare: Kirchenschlager works on regaining control down the arena, with a focus on getting the mare running to the steer.
