This program is best known for its annual production and consignment sale in June in conjunction with the Woodward, Oklahoma PRCA rodeo. That’s where some 60 2-year-old prospects are available with good 90-day starts on them.
Renee Jane Cudd has continued the breeding program she began with her husband decades ago, anchored by their line of Goldseeker Bars mares, which she says “put a beautiful head and big old hip” on their good-minded colts.
“Goldseeker Bars was a Supreme Champion, which means a horse had to excel in racing, halter and performance,” she said. “He could do everything. His dam raised three Supreme Champions.”
Hall-of-Fame header Tee Woolman bought a 3-year-old colt at last year’s sale to train. And Taylor Munsell recently won second in the average at the National Finals of Breakaway Roping on a gelding bred and raised by Cudd Quarter Horses—the same one she rode to the 2019 CNFR breakaway title and that was named defending Prairie Circuit Breakaway Horse of the Year.
In recent years, Cudd breeds her mares to Metallic Gray, by the immortal Metallic Cat out of a mare that goes back to Little Roan Hancock, Jet Smooth and Two Eyed Jack. Or she can pair them with her son of One Time Pepto out of a Playgun daughter. Metallic Gray is a Riata Buckle stallion, meaning all offspring are eligible to enter those rope horse futurities.
“The thing I like so much is that he’s got so much bone,” said Cudd. “He’s thick-made and his legs are so good.”
