Dirty Deed, the 2023 daughter of Dirty Fling, sold for $1.3 million Oct. 16 at the Old West Rope Horse Sale in Amarillo, Texas, to a partnership of Cracklin J Ranch and her consignor, Zito Equine.
Dirty Deed—a product of the Solo Select/Relentless Remuda breeding program—was started by Tyson Benson and has been in training with Miles Baker and Trevor Brazile.
The deal makes Cracklin J and Zito Equine equal partners on the bay roan mare, and she stays in Baker and Brazile’s program. Cracklin J’s Alan and Meleesa Jones also own Crosby Ray Von, the Stevie Rey Von daughter they purchased for $1.7 million in 2025, and they are partners with Zito Equine on Fendiii, the current high-call mare in the 6-&-Under Heading at Old West.
“I knew she was good all along,” Baker said. “Ty Benson had told me about her and told me I needed to look at her. David Zito owned her, and he also owns her sire, Dirty Fling, so he wanted to make a deal with us to take her. I got her, and at some point on the 3-year-olds, I always have Trevor ride them for a day or two and see what he thinks. He rode her, and he was like, ‘Man, she feels amazing. She’s mature, she can run, everything felt good.’ But then I’d start hearing him say ‘That’s probably the best 3-year-old mare I’ve ever rode,’ when people asked him her. That’s a guy who generally has very few compliments to give saying she’s the best 3-year-old he’s ever rode, that really gave me confidence.”

Dirty Deed topped a 65-head catalog built on prospects: 50 3-year-olds, 12 2-year-olds and three yearlings. Let The Beat Drop, a 2023 stallion by Stevie Rey Von, was the second high-seller at $350,000.
Official sale results—including averages and other top sellers—will update as information becomes available.

Dirty Fling is a 2019 homozygous red roan stallion by Metallic Cat out of Streak Of Gin, a daughter of A Streak Of Fling.
Relentless Remuda trained and showed him to round wins and reserve championships at the American Rope Horse Futurity Association (ARHFA) and Royal Crown, before selling him to Reliance Ranches. Zito Equine’s David and Miranda Zito fell in love with the stallion when they went to the Lazy E for the Riata, and purchased him in 2024.
Dirty Fling now stands at Solo Select in Gainesville, Texas, for Zito Equine. Dirty Deed is from his first foal crop. Those foals are now 3-year-olds in training, and they won’t show until 2027, which means the $1.3 million was paid before any Dirty Fling foal had competed. Because he is homozygous for roan, every foal he sires is roan.

“Trevor has been very adamant since January of this year, when we started getting down into our 3-year-olds, that his best 3-year-old was a horse that we call Dirty Golde,” Baker said. “Trevor and I raised him with Solo as well, out of a First Down Dash mare that we called Gold Rush. Like I said, since January to now, he says that’s his best 3-year-old, and that one’s by Dirty Fling. And then this mare, Trevor says, is the best 3-year-old we’ve ever had, and she’s by Dirty Fling. So it’s a notch in that sire’s belt for sure.
“These two horses have made me a believer in it, and we’ve got some really, really good mares that we’re gonna breed [to] Dirty Fling next year because of these two horses. They’re just that special. There’s three horses in this class of 3-year-olds that I think are just incredibly exceptional horses, and two of them are Dirty Flings. That’s pretty dang cool.”

Dirty Deed’s dam is Painted Lady, a 2019 bay mare by PYC Paint Your Wagon out of SS Southern Lady. Painted Lady raced five times, ran second once and third once, earned her Register of Merit on June 13, 2021, and banked $4,444 with a speed index of 87, according to AQHA records.
The production comes from the second dam. SS Southern Lady, a 2011 brown mare by Valiant Hero out of First Prize Robin, by Mr Jess Perry, earned her own Register of Merit on the track in 2013 and $3,998 in nine starts.
As a broodmare, she has 10 registered foals. Nine started, eight earned Registers of Merit—even of them as 2-year-olds—and seven won races. Her foals have earned $152,445 combined. Her leading earner is Southern Tres, a 2017 stallion by Tres Seis, with $35,166. Heza Southern Cartel, a 2016 gelding by Carters Cartel, ran a 107 speed index, earned $31,371 and was named Canada high-point 3-year-old colt and Northwest high-point aged stallion. Painted Lady has two full brothers on the record. The better of them, SS Wagon Painted Bay, ran a 98 speed index and earned $24,682.
The Fendiii mirror
The pedigree is not new to Dirty Deed’s new owners. Fendiii, the 2022 mare Zito Equine and Cracklin J already own together, is by Valiant Hero out of a PYC Paint Your Wagon mare. Painted Lady is by PYC Paint Your Wagon out of a Valiant Hero mare. Same two stallions, flipped.
Baker rode Fendiii to the lead in the Old West Futurity Heading after three rounds, with 683.11 points on three head.

“Trevor and I are not as dumb as people probably think we are,” Baker said. “We spend a lot of our time thinking about moves and what’s next and what needs to happen for the industry. If you know Trevor very well, you know he’s very calculated. There was a lot of opportunity with studs in the rope horse industry. There weren’t studs that were proven in our industry to be dominant, or what the industry needed at the time. We capitalized on having some really good studs, and then same with the mares. We’re breeding mares—running mares that come off the racetrack. We got horses like Fendiii that are as race-bred as race-bred gets, and she is proving to be an amazing head horse. She’s high call tomorrow. She’s a 4-year-old that’s high-calling the 6-year-old class tomorrow at the big futurity. We do have a good set of mares coming up, and that’s certainly by design. Cracklin J and the Zito family said they wanted the best mares there was, and they were completely not bluffing when they said that. They’ve got the goods.”
