The Score Season 2, Episode 5: The Story of Charles Pogues’ Legendary Scooter
Six-time PRCA/AQHA Horse of the Year Oklahoma Top Hat, ridden and owned by Charles Pogue, is a team roping legend. Here's his story, told through the voice of the man who knew him best: Charles Pogue.

The immortal Scooter—Oklahoma Top Hat, as he was registered with the American Quarter Horse Association—is profiled on the March 21 episode of The Score, through the voice of the man who campaigned him over 11 years in ProRodeo competition: Charles Pogue.

Scooter won a record six PRCA/AQHA Head Horse of the Year titles and appeared at 10 National Finals Rodeos with Pogue aboard. A 1984 son of the great Oklahoma Fuel and out of Winners Doll by Win Or Lose, Scooter died at age 17 in 2001.

“Scooter could melt off down to the speed of the steer, just like, instantly,” Pogue said. “It was easy to get everything tight and get a steer’s head turned quick. Other horses can really run, but it might take them another stride to get gathered up and turned off.”

In this episode of The Score, Pogue talks about how he learned to ride Scooter and what truly set the horse apart from the pack.

The next episode of The Score will launch Thursday, April 4 and will feature Kolton Schmidt, a 2016 NFR header and Canadian Rodeo Association champion header.
