Las Vegas Metro Police responded to reports of an active shooter on the University of Las Vegas Nevada campus—home of the Thomas & Mack Arena—where 2023 National Finals Rodeo contestants were in the midst of Grand Entry practice one day before the Finals are set to begin Dec. 7.
UPDATE: At 1:26 p.m. PT, an office with the UNLV police entered the Thomas & Mack and told contestants they still had an active situation, and that contestants were asked to evacuate through the Thomas & Mack’s West entrance, the route team ropers, tie-down ropers and steer wrestlers take to get to the arena each night.
In a Facebook post at 11:56 a.m. PT, UNLV wrote: University Police responding to report of shots fire in BEH evacuate to a safe area, RUN-HIDE-FIGHT. At 12:01 the active shooter was in the Frank and Estella Beam Hall, and at 12:20 UNLV updated it that there were shots fired in the student union.
