The Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale’s Practice Pen Qualification Event will host its last season qualifier virtually Sept. 18 through Sept. 20, 2020. The PPQ was created to provide an opportunity for ropers to get qualified during the COVID shutdown. It was surprisingly popular and has qualified ropers from regions previously underserved across the United States, Canada and overseas.

“We’ve qualified over 165 teams and, as an example, have had ropers from New York, Hawaii and Florida compete who have never been to the Finale,” said Connie Gentry, Vice President of Roping Operations. “It’s allowed a new, excited set of ropers to make their way to Vegas.
“The WSTR PPQ program will continue into the 2021 season with at least one PPQ per month,” Gentry added. “Stay tuned: If the PPQ continues to see great participation into 2021, there will be a plan to progress the program with an additional level of competition for the winners—even beyond their Finale qualification.”
