An embryo by the $44-million sire PYC Paint Your Wagon and out of the $400,000 NCHA-earner Blackish could set a new standard in run-cow crosses when it hits the ground in 2026.
And that embryo sells online in the Solo Select Sale July 4, 2025.
“This one has the chance to be a game changer,” Solo’s Melanie Smith said. “Whether you get a colt or a filly, this cross is going to turn heads, and it’s got a great chance to be black. It’s the kind that can put a program on the map.”
The sire, PYC Paint Your Wagon, is among the most prolific producers in the Quarter Horse racing world, with progeny earnings topping $44 million. His influence in the roping pen is growing as breeders lean into speed on the top side to complement cow and structure on the bottom.
The mare, Blackish, earned over $400,000 in the cutting, and she’s out of the industry blue-hen dam SS Blacks Lil Kitty and by Hottish.
“This might just be our most anticipated cross for 2026,” Smith said. “The run-cow combination here is unreal—it’s what we’re seeing winning at the futurities under the best in the world, and it’s what we’re breeding for every chance we get to make head horses. A Painted Sunshine—ridden by Tate Kirchenschlager—is a grandson of PYC, and that horse won the ARHFA World Championship in 2023. And Miles Baker and Relentless PYC won the Old West’s 4-year-old heading in 2024, another granddaughter of PYC. This is even more direct, with one of the most prolific maternal lines in the entire industry.”
The Solo Select Sale runs from 8 a.m. CDT to 5 p.m. CDT, with lots closing in two-minute increments from the preceding lot.
