ONES TO WATCH: Catcher Gasperson
Up-and-comers lighting up the Junior NFR ranks.

Catcher Gasperson, 14, of Decatur, Texas, has been on a roll in 2018, picking up Junior NFR #10 wins at the Panhandle Classic in Amarillo, Texas, and at the Oklahoma Winter Championships in Guthrie, Oklahoma, both with his friend Taylet Rademacher.

Who taught you to rope, and how long have you been roping?

My dad, Willy. I’ve been roping since I was 5, and I’m 14 now.

Which end do you prefer and why?

I like to heel best. I’ve always loved it more than heading.

How did you meet your partner Taylet?

We met going to ropings and rodeos together.

What do you like to do other than rope?

I play football. I’m a left guard.

What horse have you won most of your Junior NFR #10 points on, and where did he come from?

My heel horse is 5 years old named GraysonsPeppy. We bought him as a colt from a friend of ours, and we made him ourselves.

What are your long-term goals in the sport of team roping?

I want to be a world champ and win a gold buckle.

What are your goals for 2018?

I want to be the Junior NFR #10 champion.

If you could rope with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

I’d have Kaleb Driggers, because he can throw more rope than anybody else.

What rope do you use, and what lay?

I use a TOP HAND medium. They sponsor me.
