Pro Rodeo Results Wrap-Up: Sept. 10, 2018
Tryan and Graves win the finals in Puyallup, Washington.

Clay Tryan and Travis Graves banked $12,784 at the Washington State Fair Pro Rodeo in Puyallup, Washington. They won the finals round, roping their steer in 4.6 seconds, worth $7,500 each and placed third in the semifinals round with a 5.6-second-run, worth $2,500 each.

“We won fourth in the average, and then it starts over with two one headers,” Graves said. “Me and Clay have won that rodeo three times–in 2010 and 2012, and now 2018.”

Tryan and Graves also snuck into the average, roping two head in 12.5 seconds, adding $2,784 to each man’s earnings. Graves was on Chip, a gelding that came from Joseph Harrison.

“Chip was good—he’s 8 or 9, and he’s really good especially for his age. We were second out in the last round, and the team before us roped a leg. Honestly, we didn’t really draw very good the first three steers. The first one went straight left and we made a good run and got him caught. We got the second one caught too, and our third steer the Minors were 6 on him and we made a decent run on him. We finally drew a decent steer and made a pretty good run and finished good and everything.”

When Graves started roping with Tryan this year he only had $3,000 won in PRCA earnings. Now he’s sitting sixth in the PRCA World Standings with $86,532.82. Tryan is fourth with $90,389.96.

“We’ve both roped pretty good and we have good horses. Stuff happens. We’ve really been winning but just no huge checks. We didn’t enter Pendleton, so I’ve probably got six or seven rodeos left. We’ll go home and start practicing after Driggers’ roping.”
