Where Have the 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year Contenders Been Winning?
The 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year candidates have been raking in the money. But where have they been winning?

The 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year contenders have been traveling full swing, right alongside the best in the world. With major rodeos throughout July, the rookies have had their fair share at major money throughout the month.

This is where the Resistol Rookie of the Year contenders have been cashing in recently.


Tyler Tryan and Logan Moore lead the Resistol Rookie of the Year pack, and they’ve been hanging out alongside the best in the business. Tryan, 18, sits No. 1 in the Resistol Rookie of the Year race on the head side with $35,393.56 won on the year, and Moore, 22, is No. 1 on the heel side with $28,983.92. Tryan and Moore had a big Cowboy Christmas, cashing in $10,191 a man, followed by $2,785 a man between the rounds and aggregate at the Central Wyoming Fair & PRCA Rodeo in Casper July 9-13. Most recently, they pocketed $1,361 each for fourth in the first round of the Deadwood Days Of ’76 Rodeo (South Dakota) July 23. Tryan and Moore are also ranked in the world standings, Tryan No. 34 and Moore No. 43.

Korbin Rice, who heads for 2021 Resistol Rookie Heeler of the Year Caleb Hendrix, has been having a strong year, winning the Clovis Rodeo (California) in April and fifth in the average at the Reno Rodeo in June. Rice, who sits No. 2 in the Resistol Rookie of the Year heading race, recently picked up fourth in the first round and eighth in the average at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo July 10-13, for $2,374 total. Rice also got a piece of the pie in Progressive Round 2 of the Utah Days of 47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City for $411.

Cumberland City, Tennessee’s Quinton Parchman is No. 3 in the Resistol Rookie of the Year heading standings with $23,721.36, and he’s picked up a pretty penny on the circuit front. The Great Lakes Circuit cowboy had a $2,940 weekend over July 10-13, Winneshiek County Fairgrounds Rodeo (Decorah, Iowa) and the Heart Of The North Rodeo (Spooner, Wisconsin). July 24, Parchman pocketed $580 for third at the Sac County Fair and PRCA Rodeo (Iowa).

Casey and Wyatt Thomas kicked off their rookie years with a bang, leading the standings at the beginning of 2024. Casey, No. 5 on the head side, and Wyatt, No. 3 on the heel side, have finally picked up momentum again, winning fourth in the average at the Ogden Pioneer Days (Utah) July 19-24, for $3,636 a man.

Brayden Schmidt has climbed his way to No. 6 in the Resistol Rookie of the Year heading standings with $20,743.30. The 20-year-old from Benton City, Washington, picked up $2,785 in Casper between the rounds and the aggregate. His biggest hit came more recently, however, when he cashed in $6,021 between the first round and the average at the California Rodeo Salinas July 18-21. Schmidt will also pick up $2,000 for winning Performance 5 at the Cheyenne Frontier Days.

The No. 7 Resistol Rookie Header of the Year Ben Jordan also cashed in in Salinas. The 2024 Resistol Rookie Roundup champion picked up $2,566 between the rounds and the average.

Like Parchman, the No. 8 header Jesse Boos and No. 7 heeler Jace Steenhoek have been cashing in on the Great Lakes Circuit front. The two pocketed $790 a man in Decorah, Iowa, $1,059 each at the Cedar County Rodeo in Hartington, Nebraska, $183 each in Burke, South Dakota, at the Burke Stampede Rodeo, $774 a man at the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo (Mitchell, South Dakota) and $153 a man in Sac City, Iowa.

Devon McDaniel has had the opportunity of a lifetime, heading for two-time World Champion Walt Woodard. McDaniel, 19, picked up $3,340 with Woodard in Salinas, and $1,500 in Salt Lake City.

The No. 5 Resistol Rookie Heeler of the Year Whip Peterson has $18,660.57 won on the year. The Arizona cowboy had a solid June and picked up a July check for $1,675 at the Laramie Jubilee Days (Wyoming) July 12-14.

Mason Trollinger is No. 10 in the Resistol Rookie of the Year standings on the heel side with $13,142.46. Trollinger has been trekking along on the circuit front, cashing in $1,183 at the Whitehall PRCA Rodeo (Montana) July 19-20, and $1,955 at the Central Montana PRCA Rodeo in Lewistown, Montana, July 24-25.
