Karl Stressman and Tammy Canida of the American Quarter Horse Association are at the forefront of record keeping and pedigree information, and The Score caught up with them to talk about what role the AQHA can play in the team roping industry.

Pedigree and papers weren’t always a priority in this sport, as much as they have been in other disciplines. But times are changing, and with the AQHA World Show just around the corner, Stressman, AQHA chief executive officer, and Canida, AQHA registrar, discuss why it matters to keep up with your AQHA records.

The value of the horse market is becoming more and more dependent on their bloodline, not just what they can do. Since 1940, AQHA has dedicated their efforts to preserving the records and winnings of the American Quarter Horse. With resources like QData, they are able to track the success of any horse whose winnings are reported in their registered name.

The AQHA World Show will take place October 30-November 19 in Oklahoma City, and pays out hundreds of thousands of dollars to it’s exhibitors. In the roping alone, classes can total up to 100 horses, who are judged and awarded payout and prizes. Stressman and Canida go over how you can qualify for the World Show, and what it could mean for your horse to see success in the AQHA show pen.
