With a show record on both ends as impressive as his stunning good looks, Rising Sun Quarter Horses’ stallion Dreamy JJ is proving himself now as a sire of roping futurity champs.
The 2011 buckskin beauty is by Pitzer Ranch’s Joe Jack Red and out of the Two Eyed Red Buck mare Dreamy Two Eyes. In his first year competing in roping, Dreamy JJ was the 2018 AQHA High-Point Open Heeling Stallion.
His quiet mind and athleticism have allowed him to accumulate hundreds of AQHA points in heading, heeling, tie-down roping and halter. In 2023, he was also the Reserve Senior Heading Level 2 World Champion.
Dreamy JJ has also excelled in the American Buckskin Registry Association, taking home the Honor Roll Open Heeling Reserve Championship as well as the Cattle World Senior Tie-Down Roping Reserve championship.
“I’m 73 and I still rope on him,” Owner Ron Mobley said. “He’s very gentle and his colts are, too.”
In 2020, Dreamy JJ was the Open Heeling Reserve Champion at the ARHFA’s Oil Can Classic Maturity under Luke Atchison. As recently as 2023, he was the AQHA Reserve World Champion in L2 Sr Heading.
“You might think he’s a little big to rope calves on, but he never feels big when he travels,” Atchison said of the 15.1-hand stud.
On two of Dreamy JJ’s oldest campaigners, Atchison earned almost $40,000 in 2024. On the 5-year-old bay gelding Kandy JJ, Atchison won a Royal Crown Heeling Futurity. And in August on 4-year-old JJ’s Hollywood Star—a buckskin like her sire–he won the 4-and-Under Heeling Futurity at the Royal Crown.
