Build Better Horses: The Team Roping Journal’s 2020 Breeder’s Guide
The price of a great rope horse is still on the rise, and the breeding business is taking notice. For the first time, The Team Roping Journal is offering our own guide to breeding the best.

Dear Roper,

Every December at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, I spend my days holed up in my room at the South Point, writing a new story each day about one of the horses that are standing out in the Thomas & Mack. The best part of that work is calling the breeder of the horse, so very often someone who long-ago lost track of the animal, and letting them know a horse they put their money, pride, effort and love into really made it. More often than not, that breeder is left awestruck, usually in tears.

That opportunity is special, and one I don’t take for granted. These breeders’ pursuits, and the subsequent passion they express for their horses, has us on a new path in 2020.

We’re launching our first-ever Breeder’s Guide, a place to highlight breeding programs and services that help create and promote these future champions. Big or small, we want to showcase those who prioritize the future of the rope horse industry, just as those of us on staff at The Team Roping Journal do.

What’s more, when we did our “Jackyl” episode of “The Score,” we were so encouraged by all of you who listened and told us how it moved you. We’re looking forward to telling more of these stories in the new year, and we hope to keep your attention as we embark on all of the new ways to tell the stories of the horses, ropers and happenings you love.
