As we enter official crunch time in the land of ProRodeo, every dollar counts, especially for those on the bubble.
The bubble boys are fighting their way out of bubble territory to the Top 15, and these are the men on the bubble that made money moves over the Aug. 9-12, 2023, weekend to claw their way closer to the Top 15.
Clint Summers & Jake Long
Clint Summers and Jake Long had a big time the weekend of Aug. 9-12, bringing home $9,664 a man, which had big implications for Summers in terms of the bubble.
They won the first round of the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo (Missouri) with a 5.0-second run to pocket $1,625 each. Their 5.7 in the second round, worth $151 each, put them at 10.7 seconds in the two-head average to get the Sikeston win and take home $2,608 a man.
With a 4.6, Summers and Long were first in the second round of the Lawton Rangers Rodeo (Oklahoma) to win $1,663 each. In Lovington, New Mexico, at the Lea County PRCA Rodeo, they were seventh in the second round with a 4.4-second run to win $378 a man, and their 10.0 on two head finished them second in the average worth $3,239 a man.
Summers now sits No. 25 on the head side with $54,995.61 won on the year, and Long is pushing himself even deeper into the Top 15 with $71,468.07 in earnings to sit No. 13 on the heel side.
Chad Masters & Trey Yates
Chad Masters and Trey Yates are another bubble team that made big moves over the weekend, winning $6,487 a man.
Masters and Yates got the average win in Lovington with a 9.8 on two head, good for $3,725 each. Their fourth-place finish in the second with a 4.2 brought them both $1,350. In Sikeston, they got a piece of the pie in the first round with a 5.8 which finished them fifth in the round for $832 each. In Lawton, they were seventh in the average with a 16.5 on two head to both take home $580.
Masters now sits right on the bubble at No. 19 on the head side with $59,553 won on the year. For reference, Coleman Proctor sits No. 15 in the world standings with $66,976.10. On the heel side, their successful weekend has Yates now sitting in the 23rd spot of the heeling world standings with $59,552.53 won as well.
Pedro Egurrola & JC Flake
Pedro Egurrola, of Florence, Arizona, now finds himself even closer on the bubble at No. 21 on the head side with $58,574.42 won on the year after he and his heeler JC Flake accumulated $6,369 a man over the weekend. For Flake, he’s still aways from the No. 15 heeler, BUT at No. 28 in the world he’s in bubble territory and still in the conversation with $50,811.
Egurrola and Flake were 5.2 in the first round of the Farm-City Pro Rodeo in Hermiston, Oregon, to finish sixth in the round for $1,014 a man. Their 15.1 on two head finished sixth in the average and brought them both $1,521.
Their win at the Bozeman Stampede (Montana) with a 4.6-second run pocketed them both $2,165, and their seventh-place finish at the Cache County Fair and Rodeo (Logan, Utah) with a 4.3 was good for $1,669.
Chase Tryan
Chase Tryan, of Helena, Montana, is paired up with the No. 2 header in the world Nelson Wyatt, but Tryan is fighting his way out of the bubble and toward his sixth NFR qualifier. After winning $7,116 over the weekend, Tryan now sits No. 20 on the heel side of the world standings with $62,222.91 won on the year.
Wyatt and Tryan were 5.1 seconds in the first round in Lawton to win second and $1,547 a man. In the second round, their 5.5 finished them fifth in the round worth $735 each. Their 10.6-second average won the rodeo and each man $2,669.
They also split the first round in Sikeston with a 5.0-second run to take home $1,625 each. In Lovington, they finished seventh in the first round with a 5.0 to both pocket $540.
