Each year, the Danny Dietz Memorial Classic sees top ropers around the country showing their support for the men and women who fight for our freedoms. Now in its 14th year, “The Classic” has become a prestigious roping, and this is how you can watch all the action through Roping.com.

What is the Danny Dietz Memorial Classic?

In June 2005, four U.S. Navy Seals set out on a special operation in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan where they were ambushed. Three of the four men lost their lives, and the rescue helicopter was also shot down. Nineteen Special Operations Warriors were killed, leaving behind loved ones. Of the 19 was Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz. His wife, Patsy, was dedicated to keeping his memory alive. Thus, the Navy SEAL Danny Dietz Foundation was created to offer support during times of need to those that protect us at all cost.

In 2008, Danny Dietz Memorial Classic co-founder Danny Quinlan approached Patsy to bring together the sport of team roping with the SEAL community in an effort to further honor her husband. The Danny Dietz Memorial Classic was created. “The Classic” and The Navy SEAL Danny Dietz Foundation™️ have raised close to $1M for the people that sacrifice so much for our freedoms and to keep us safe. Proceeds from the weekend’s events—which include a gala and PRCA rodeo in addition to the team roping—benefit The Navy SEAL Danny Dietz Foundation.

Where and when?

The Danny Dietz Memorial Classic will take place May 26-29, 2023, at the NRS Ranch Arena in Decatur, Texas. The Open, which features some of the world’s greatest ropers, will take place Saturday, May 27.
