Pro Rodeo Results Wrap-Up: Snow and Thorp Win Big Before the Summer Run; Kirchenschlager and Hawkins II Continue to Strike and More
Snow and Thorp, Kirchenschlager and Hawkins II and many more teams are winning big before heading into the summer run.

Three-time Wrangler NFR qualifiers Cody Snow and Wesley Thorp are heading into the summer run on a hot streak, picking up $3,897 a man over two rodeos in the Texas circuit. They are currently fifth and eighth in the PRCA world standings, unofficially, before they head west for the Reno Rodeo, the Bob Feist Invitational and the Fourth of July run.

“We both rode our good horses last week and tried to put some runs together like we wanted to make this summer,” Thorp said. “We had some bad luck on a strong steer at Weatherford (Texas) but made two good runs at the other two rodeos to finish out strong before we leave. This is the most excited I’ve been going into the summer because I have the two best horses I’ve ever owned and they’re both healthy so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Snow and Thorp won the Coleman (Texas) PRCA Rodeo with a 4.8-second-run, worth $2,205 a man. Then at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse in Cleburne, Texas, Snow and Thorp placed second with a 4.1-second-run, worth $1,692 a man.

2018’s Salt Lake City Days of ’47 Champions Kellan and Resistol Rookie contender Carson Johnson were on a heater over the weekend. They won the Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte, Nebraska with a 5.0-second-run, worth $2,041 a man. They again were 5.0-seconds at the Evergreen (Colorado) Rodeo to tie Travis Bounds and T.J. Watts for first, worth $1,526 a man. The Johnson brothers added a total of $3,567 to their earnings.

Along with winning the Evergreen Rodeo, Mountain State circuit ropers Bounds and Watts placed eighth at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo with a 6.7-second-run, worth $178 a man. Bounds also entered up at the San Juan Stampede Pro Rodeo in Monticello, Utah with Hank Bounds. They placed eighth with a 7.6-second-run, worth $149 a man. Travis added a total of $1,853 to his earnings. Watts added $1,704 to his earnings. Hank added $149 to his earnings. 

2018 Resistol Rookie All-Around champion Tanner Green and Jake Clay won the Parker County Sheriffs Posse Frontier Days And PRCA Rodeo in Weatherford, Texas with a 4.4-second-run, worth $3,036 a man.

Tate Kirchenschlager, who won the San Antonio Stock (Texas) Show & Rodeo and is eyeing his chances for his first NFR, and new partner Buddy Hawkins II, who roped with Lane Ivy at last year’s NFR, won the Stockyards Championship rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas with a 5.6-second-run, worth $978 a man. Then at the Coleman PRCA Rodeo the tied Casey Tew and Clay Futrell for second behind Snow and Thorp with a 4.9-second-run, worth $1,774 a man. Kirchenschlager and Hawkins II added a total of $2,752 to each of their earnings. 

“The last couple week have been good,” Kirchenschlager said. “I think we went to nine or 10 rodeos—just smaller ones around the house. I thought we did good made some good runs. I’m excited for the summer. I think Buddy has some really good horses and ropes great.”

Steele DePaoli and Riley Wilson won big in Canada. They won the Bonnyville (Alberta) Pro Rodeo with a 5.0-second-run, worth $1,319 a man. They placed third at the Innisfail (Alberta) Pro Rodeo with a 6.5-second-run, worth $1,358 a man. DePaoli and Wilson added a total of $2,677 to their earnings.

Eli Lord and Levi O’Keeffe added a total of $2,483 to their earnings by winning the Newtown (North Dakota) Rodeo Days-Adrian Foote Memorial with a 6.2-second-run, worth $1,773 a man. They placed sixth at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo with a 6.5-second-run, worth $710 a man. Lord and O’Keeffe added a total of $2,483 to each of their earnings. 

Two-time world champion header Matt Sherwood and Hunter Koch won the Innisfail (Alberta) Pro Rodeo with a 5.7-second-run, worth $1,838 a man. The also placed 6th at the Bonnyville Pro Rodeo with a 6.5-second-run, worth $1,358 a man. Sherwood and Koch added a total of $2,297 to their earnings. Sherwood is 14th and Koch is 10th in the world standings, unofficially. 

Colorado’s J.B. James and NFR qualifier Brock Hanson won the Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo in Grover, Colorado with a 5.2-second-run, worth $1,431 a man. They also tied Jay Tittel and Richard Durham for third at the Evergreen Rodeo with a 5.3-second-run, worth $950 a man. James and Hanson added a total of $2,381 to each of their earnings.

2017 NFR qualifier JR Dees and Arizona’s Lane Siggins were on a roll at the Wild, Wild West ProRodeo in Silver City, New Mexico. The won the first round with a 5.2-second-run, worth $588 a man. In the second round, they, again, roped their steer in 5.2-seconds for first, worth $588 a man. They won the average after roping two head in 10.4-seconds, worth $881 a man. Dees and Siggins added a total of $2,057 to their earnings. Dees is 28th and Siggins is 26th, unofficially.

Dustin Bird and Sid Sporer teamed up to collect Montana circuit earnings. They won the Belt (Montana) PRCA Rodeo with a 6.1-second-run, worth $1,124 a man. Then Bird headed across the border to rope with new partner Trey Yates. They placed second at the Innisfail Pro Rodeo with a 6.2-second-run, worth $1,598 a man. Bird added a total of $2,722 to his earnings. Bird is 45th and Yates is 15th, unofficially.
