College National Finals Rodeo Champ and Resistol Rookie of the Year Billy Bob Brown helped sort the team roping steers into the three pens you've seen all week at the Finals, and he's helped us assess each team's chances with each steer, night by night.

“This should be interesting tonight with the strong pen,” Brown said. “There are definitely a couple that you wouldn’t want in their position, but there’s also lot of chances. Great talent and roping all week and all my respect to the guys. Good luck tonight fellas; it’s been a fun week.”

Kolton Schmidt and Hunter Koch: 768

This was Clay Tryan’s first steer, and he shuffled out of the corner and Jake Long missed him. Jeff Flenniken and Tyler Worley were a 5.6 on this steer in Round 4, and he was sharp and down the middle. Erich Rogers was 5.3 on this steer. He stepped left pretty hard for Rogers but they made a great run.

Brenten Hall and Chase Tryan: 821

This is Jeff Flenniken and Tyler Worley’s first steer, and he was medium-plus and right down the middle. Flenniken and Worley knocked him down in 6.7. Chad Masters and Wesley ran this steer in Round 4 and were 4.9. Dustin Egusquiza was off the barrier on this steer in Round 7 and split the horns. He’s sharp and runs.

Jeff Flenniken and Tyler Worley: 713

Clay Smith and Jade Corkill had him in the first round to be 5.1. Straight and down the middle. Nelson Wyatt and Levi Lord were 4.8 on this steer, and he was sharp and straight. Kolton Schmidt and Hunter Koch made a 4.4-second run to be third in Round 7. 

Charly Crawford and Logan Medlin: 822

Great chance, right down the middle. Dustin Egusquiza and Travis Graves were 4.9 on him in the first round. Clay Smith and Jade Corkill were 3.9 plus 5 on this steer [in Round 4]. Clay Tryan lost his rope on this one in Round 7, and he fought the chute pretty bad and ran left sharp.

Erich Rogers and Paden Bray: 824

Chad Masters waved it off him in Round 1. He steps left just a touch. This steer turned his head in the chute when Charly Crawford nodded and went left pretty hard [in Round 4]. He’s medium-plus. Jeff Flenniken and Tyler Worley made a 4.7-second run on him in Round 7.

Levi Simpson and Shay Carroll: 833

Logan Medlin missed him in Round 1. Steer didn’t take the handle great, and can be funky to heel. Dustin Egusquiza ran him in Round 4. They were 4.1 plus five, and he’s tough to heel. Cody Snow and Junior Nogueira missed him in Round 7. 

Nelson Wyatt and Levi Lord: 826

EXTRA. Really, really good steer. Made a good run when they ran him through after the rodeo, led off good and slows up a little when the head rope hits him. Charly Crawford and Logan Medlin won the go-round on him in Round 7.

Chad Masters and Wesley Thorp: 838

Brenten Hall and Chase Tryan were 5.2 the first time on him, and Cody Snow missed him. Great steer. Luke Brown and Joseph Harrison were a 7.1 on this one when Luke split the horns in Round 7. 

Cody Snow and Junior Nogueira: 840

Nelson Wyatt and Levi Lord had him in Round 1, and he was medium-plus and faded right. Luke Brown ran him and was 4.8, and he was sharp and down the middle. Brenten Hall and Chase Tryan were a 9.4 (leg) on this one in Round 7. 

Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins: 834

This is Cody Snow and Junior Nogueira’s first-round steer, and he’s medium-plus and down the middle. Rogers and Bray were a 4.6 + 5 on him in Round 4. Lovell missed this one in Round 7. He’s sharp and down the middle.

Clay Tryan and Jake Long: 712

Erich Rogers and Paden Bray won the first round on this steer. He’s a great chance. This is a steer Kolton Schmidt missed in Round 4, and he’s sharp and steps left. Shay Carroll missed this steer in Round 7.

Clay Smith and Jade Corkill: 825

Luke Brown and Joseph Harrison were 4.9 on him in the first round. Great chance—right down the middle. Brenten Hall and Chase Tryan won Round 4 on him with a 4.2-second run. This steer is a little low headed, and Andrew Ward missed him in Round 7.

Dustin Egusquiza and Travis Graves: 829

Buddy Hawkins missed him in Round 1. He really, really runs. Clay Tryan and Jake Long had this steer—he’s the runner, but they were 4.8 on him and made a great run. He’s a great steer. Chad Masters and Wesley Thorp got a leg on this one to be 4.7 plus 5 in Round 7.

Luke Brown and Joseph Harrison: 538

Paul Eaves missed him in Round 1. Steer stepped off to the right. Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins had him and were 6.2. He was sharp and down the middle. Clay Smith and Jade Corkill connected to be 4.3 and win second in Round 7 on this one.

Colby Lovell and Paul Eaves: 711

Kolton Schmidt missed him in Round 1. Levi Simpson and Shay Carroll made a 4.9-second run on him in Round 4. He was good and sharp and stepped left. Nelson Wyatt ran him and was 4.8 in Round 7 on him. TRJ
