Two-Time Champ Paul David Tierney Leads 2024 Cinch Timed Event Championship After Round 3
Rodeo

Paul David Tierney will enter the fourth round of the Cinch Timed Event Championship with an 11.4-second lead on second-place Thomas Smith, giving the two-time champ momentum entering the final 10 head of the 2024 edition of the Lazy E event.

Tierney, 34, won the event in 2014 and 2016. The Oklahoma City transplant, originally from Oral, South Dakota, has won $3,000 in go-round money so far, adding to the $284,500 he’s won in his 12 previous appearances. He’s 191.9 on 15 head.

“I’ve overdone myself and tried to do too much the last few years,” Tierney said. “And this year I really told myself we’re backing it off and who cares? We win second, we win third, we win fourth. We are not going fast.”

Tierney has the Cinch Timed Event Championship record of 267.9 seconds on 25 head that he set in 2016—a bar that the strong cattle won’t allow anyone to reach in 2024.

Tierney’s brother Jess, another Cinch Timed Event Champion who’s won $192,500 in his career at the Ironman, won Round 3 outright with a time of 56.3 seconds on five head, worth $3,000. Jess is eighth in the average with a time of 240.6 on 15.
