INCENTIVES: Royal Crown Roping 

Rising Sun’s Dreamy JJ is proving that old-school breeding wins contemporary checks. The 2011 buckskin is by Pitzer Ranch’s Joe Jack Red and out of the Two Eyed Red Buck mare Dreamy Two Eyes. In his first year entering ropings, Dreamy JJ was the AQHA High-Point Open Heeling Stallion. 

The stud’s quiet mind and athleticism have allowed him to accumulate hundreds of AQHA points in heading, heeling, tie down and halter. Dreamy JJ earned Superiors in Heeling twice and Heading three times. Luke Atchison took the stud to his first jackpot as a 3-year-old and he later won a reserve championship at the ARHFA’s Oil Can Classic. In 2023, JJ was the AQHA Reserve World Champion in L2 Senior Heading and is still winning, having earned $11,843 turning steers at Royal Crown Guthrie last summer. 

Plus, two of his offspring out of the same Smart Little Lena/Doc’s Hickory mare have earned more than $112,000. Dominating at both 12 and 13 jackpots and Royal Crown and ARHFA futurities were 6-year-old Kandy JJ and his full sister, 5-year-old JJ’s Hollywood Star.

“That mare has enough fire that you never feel behind,” said Atchison. “There’s no quit in her. And she has really quick feet.”
