Now 9 years old, Reys Of Pep remains one of the winningest stallions in roping futurity history with nearly $130,000 earned at both ends.

“Pepper” was first started and shown by Brad Lund at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity, then carried Colby Lovell to the ARHFA’s Reserve Heeling World Title in 2022. The horse won the 2023 RFA Heeling Derby with Lovell, the 2023 ARHFA Cowtown Classic Heading Futurity with Lovell and the TX Best Heading Futurity with Kaleb Driggers. He was named ARHFA Head Horse of the Year in 2023. Then, in 2024 he came out of the breeding barn to win the Old West Futurity’s Non-Pro Heading Championship with Halie Richey.

“He can do anything—he’s outstanding on each end—truly one of the best I’ve ever rode,” Lovell said. “He’s good-minded enough to take the heat of battle any time you ask. My little girl can warm him up, and I don’t give it a second thought.”

He’s also broke enough to switch boxes with no bridle change. Pepper’s oldest colts are just turning 4, but NFR header Jake Cooper is super excited to have recently bred Pepper to 6-year-old Fury Of Honor that won plenty of checks, herself, at heading futurities.
