From some of the best ropings in the country to awe-inspiring views to the movers and shakers who shape the sport of team roping, Arizona offers something for everyone.

Buckeye, Arizona—the West side of the Valley of the Sun—offers a unique blend of rural and urban, shopping centers sprinkled among farm fields producing cotton, alfalfa and citrus. It’s an ideal home base for winter roping visitors, with close events in Litchfield and Buckeye and plenty more with a short drive to Wickenburg and Cave Creek.

Entertainment

If golfing is what you love second-best behind roping, the Valley of the Sun is the place to be, with countless courses. There are three courses in Buckeye alone: Verrado Golf Club (623-388-3000), Sundance Golf Course (623-328-0400) and Copper Canyon Golf Club (928-252-6783), and more tee times are available at several others in nearby Litchfield Park and Goodyear.

Stay long enough and you can take in spring training games in the Cactus League at Goodyear Ballpark (623-882-3120) and Camelback Ranch (623-302-5000). Go to a concert at Desert Diamond Arena and take advantage of the shopping and dining options at Westgate Entertainment District (480-387-5678).

When you need a little more adrenaline rush than that, try out the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience (401-543-3278) at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale. Book your reservations online and drive or ride. Or, grab some friends and try out the Twiisted Riddles Escape Room (623-440-1901) with several options for mysteries to solve from the strategic to the scary.

Food and Drink

For a delicious meal paired with your choice of a wide variety of unique wines, try Ciao Grazie Pizzeria Winebar with locations in Verrado (623-853-1717) and Scottsdale (480-685-3884). Family-owned and operated, Ciao Grazie offers authentic wood-fired pizza and calzoni, fresh seafood options, salads, pasta and more inspired by owner and chef Franco Dalu’s Italian heritage and years working in some of the finest European hotels. On warmer days, they offer al fresco patio dining and take advantage of deals during Happy Hour, seven days a week.

For a great view while dining on a wide selection of from-scratch dishes, head to The Vic Bar + Kitchen (623-533-4722), located inside the Victory Club in the Verrado community. The Vic boasts wholesome foods cultivated from fresh, local ingredients in a changing menu of options.

For a one-stop shop, consider the Out West General Store (623-535-3813) in Waddell. The Store is home to the Cowboy Cafe, serving pizza, tacos and milkshakes as well as a deli and barista for that caffeine jones you’ve got happening. While you’re there, you can pick up feed, tack, farrier supplies, clothes, and have a notary sign your documents and then copy and fax them, all under one roof.

If you don’t mind a short drive, nearby Goodyear/Litchfield Park boasts numerous chain restaurant favorites like BJ’s Brewhouse, Texas Roadhouse and the Olive Garden

Shopping

For essentials, head to Canyon Trails Town Center to hit Target, CVS Pharmacy, PetSmart and Starbucks, or try Sundance Towne Center on Watson Road for Wal-Mart, Boot Barn, AutoZone and more.

Downtown Buckeye features its own creative shops like Screws and Sparkles (623-386-6576) and the Enchanted Bullfrog (623-687-0289). For adventurous spirits, Bootleg Botanicals (bootlegbotanicals.com) offers all the ingredients you need to brew your own alcoholic masterpieces.

Find a treasure trove of nostalgia at the Phoenix West location of the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall (623-889-0290). Located just off I-10 at Dysart Road, the Brass Armadillo is over 55,000 square feet in size with more than 500 dealers onsite.
