As Cowboy Christmas gets underway for 2019, ropers are preparing for the long drives and non-stop competition. 

Tyler Wade and Billie Jack Saebens are started their Cowboy Christmas run on a heater. They won the first round at the Greeley (Colorado) Stampede with a quick 4.3-second-run, worth $2,655 a man. 

“The steers weren’t starting great,” Wade said. “I like to be more aggressive on the first steer. Sometimes when you catch and you draw a bad steer you will be too long, so I don’t want to waste a good steer going for the day money instead of the average.”

They will run their second steer Sunday. 

The new team of Lane Ivy, who roped with Buddy Hawkins II at the 2018 Wrangler NFR, and Cesar de la Cruz won the average Rodeo de Sante Fe (New Mexico) with a time of 9.1-seconds on two head, adding $1,519 to their earnings. They also won the first round with a 4.1-second-run, worth $1,013 a man. They tied Cyle Denison and Lane Mitchell in the second round for fifth with a 5.0-second-run, worth $244 a man. Ivy and de la Cruz added a total of $2,776 to each of their earnings. 

Clint Buhler and Chase Simpson won the average at the Wainwright (Alberta) Stampede with a time of 18.3-seconds on three head, worth $1,743 a man. They won the first round with a 5.7-second-run, worth $1,162 a man. They were too long to place in the second round, but come back with a finals round win with a 5.6-second-run, worth $1,200 a man. They also placed seventh at the Sundre (Alberta) Pro Rodeo with a 5.5-second run, adding $505 to their earnings.

Days before Pace Freed and Dustin Searcy placed 12th at the 2019 Bob Feist Invitational, they kick-started they’re week winning the Strawberry Days Rodeo in Pleasant Grove, Utah with a quick 4.9-second-run, worth $2,654 a man.

Garrett Rogers and Jake Minor won the Sundre Pro Rodeo with a 4.5-second-run, worth $2,324 a man. Rogers is currently 39th in the PRCA world standings with $15,280.31. Minor is 23rd with $20,305.28.
